Brandi: The dark human paths of crime in the film “Todo modo”
In the new program “Todo Modo”, which will air on Rai 3 starting from tomorrow, March 23rd, Emilia Brandi will lead the audience into the world of organized crime through unprecedented reports, witnesses, and exceptional guests. Brandi, who has been working on organized crime since 2016 with the show “Cose nostre” on Rai 1, explains that they have been looking for different ways to tell stories about reality and territories.
The aim of the program is to shed light on certain places that are often associated with criminal activities and to showcase their beauty. Brandi and her team have also invited guests who can provide insights beyond individual stories, discussing topics such as legality and justice in the broadest sense possible.
The first episode, titled “Terra e Pace” (Land and Peace), will focus on Calabria, the ‘ndrangheta, and femicide. Nicola Gratteri, a magistrate under protection, will be one of the exceptional guests. The episode will feature three stories that are currently relevant and linked to the grip of criminal clans on territory. One of these stories is that of Maria Chindamo, a 42-year-old businesswoman who was murdered in 2016.
“Her story, I believe, has affected all of our consciences,” explains Brandi. “Essentially, it is a femicide in the land of ‘ndrangheta.” This case encompasses violence against women and the land as a metaphor for mafia and criminal power. It goes against the desires of a woman to live freely and fulfill her dreams. For this episode, Matteo Lena went to Calabria while Brandi herself went to Sardinia, where they retraced the Mamoiada feud through the testimony of Annino Mele, one of the most dangerous Sardinian bandits.
The third episode will be set in the Caserta area, where the focus will be on young boys who became Camorra killers but then expressed genuine remorse, providing crucial assistance to the investigations. In the stories she covers, Brandi always emphasizes the human and emotional journeys, while also aiming to provide hope and highlighting the necessity to continue believing in the idea of a state and community.
The three-part series “Todo Modo” promises to take viewers on a captivating journey through the dark paths of human criminality, shedding light on the realities of organized crime in different regions of Italy. With its unique approach and exceptional guests, the program aims to not only inform but also inspire viewers to believe in a better future.
