Brescia mobilizes against suspected Dengue case: disinfection planned for tomorrow

Brescia has been alerted to a suspected case of Dengue fever by the local health authority (ATS), prompting the city to schedule an anti-mosquito intervention in the area around Via delle Tofane for tomorrow.

Dengue is a disease caused by a virus that is mainly present in tropical and subtropical countries and is transmitted through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes, not through direct human-to-human transmission.

The insect and larvae disinfection treatment will be carried out at 4 am in public areas and from 6 am in private areas if the owners are present within a 200-meter radius of the affected person’s residence. The city council is urging residents to allow access to the appointed personnel in their private gardens and courtyards. If residents become aware of the treatment after 6 am, they are requested to call 328 0413153 before 9 am on the same day to reschedule the intervention.

“The maximum cooperation of everyone is requested so that the operations can be carried out safely and quickly,” explains the city council. They also recommend not entering the treated areas until the end of the disinfection process, keeping doors and windows closed, not letting out pets, and suspending the operation of air ventilation systems. Furniture and outdoor toys should be washed with common detergents using washable or disposable gloves.

The disinfection process will not involve vegetable gardens, and it will be possible to use internal/private courtyards five hours after the treatment. Residents are also advised not to leave containers where stagnant water can accumulate, keep courtyards and outdoor areas free of waste, shrubs, and weeds, and use mosquito repellents while covering up to avoid getting bitten.

This suspected case of Dengue fever has raised concerns among the residents of Brescia. The city is taking swift action to prevent any potential spread of the virus by organizing a thorough disinfection process in the affected area. The health and well-being of the community are of utmost importance, and the city council is urging residents to cooperate fully with the intervention.
