“Garland’s Disaster-Political Movie ‘Civil War’ Hits the Big Screen”

The highly anticipated disaster-political movie ‘Civil War’ by Alex Garland is set to hit theaters on April 18th with 01. The film presents a divided America, engulfed in a war and facing a severe water shortage. The battle takes place in the streets, on highways, in parks, and even at airports, with the enemy being fellow Americans.

The story revolves around journalist Joel (Wagner Moura) and photographer Lee (Kirsten Dunst), who believe there is only one story worth telling: interviewing the President of the United States. The President, played by Nick Offerman, bears a striking resemblance to Trump. He has taken refuge in Washington while a fierce civil war rages on, reminiscent of the events of January 6th at Capitol Hill, but on a much larger scale.

The two journalists embark on a journey towards the capital, accompanied by elderly and frail reporter Sammy (Stephen McKinley Henderson) and aspiring young photographer Jessie (Cailee Spaeny), who sees Lee as a role model.

Their journey becomes an intense on-the-road experience, filled with countless brutal conflicts and hundreds of abandoned cars. The air is filled with the deafening sound of war helicopters. Meanwhile, what remains of the official government, under the President’s control, clashes with the combined Western forces of Texas and California.

Amidst the chaos, the film highlights the extreme cynicism of these journalists, who prefer to photograph the death of a colleague rather than save them. A standout moment in ‘Civil War’ features the exceptional performance of Jesse Plemons as a secessionist soldier with a clear distinction between who is considered American and who is not. While manning a checkpoint wearing eerie red-tinted glasses, he conducts interrogations that are brief yet highly effective. All it takes is a few questions about one’s origins, and perhaps you may be spared. However, if you claim to be American while your appearance and surname suggest otherwise, a gunshot to the chest will end the discussion.

‘Civil War’ promises to be a gripping and thought-provoking film that delves into the dark depths of a divided society on the brink of collapse. Garland’s direction and the exceptional performances by the cast ensure an unforgettable cinematic experience. Be sure to catch this powerful film when it arrives in theaters this April.
