Torino: Stellantis’ crucial role in the apple industry

In a recent meeting at the Ministry of Mirafiori, Davide Mele, Head of Corporate Affairs at Stellantis in Italy, emphasized the significant role that Torino, along with Mirafiori and the entire Piedmont region, plays and will continue to play in the global operations of Stellantis. “Torino is the pulsating heart from which decisions originate, decisions that go beyond our country and involve the entire worldwide activity of Stellantis,” Mele stated.

Mele expressed confidence in achieving ambitious targets for the electric version of the iconic Fiat 500 at Mirafiori. “We believe in the potential to reach three-digit numbers for the electric 500, considering its jewel-like qualities and its successful 18-year history with approximately 3 million units produced,” he explained. “In the recent past, it has already demonstrated its potential, with a maximum production speed of 430 cars per day on two shifts, employing 1,200 workers. This is equivalent to a potential production of around 100,000 units per year. The Fiat 500 is the jewel of the Fiat brand, both nationally and internationally, especially considering the future discontinuation of production of traditional combustion engine vehicles. It will always be closely tied to the city of Torino, which is and will remain the home of the 500.”

Regarding Maserati, Mele acknowledged that the Chinese market downturn, which accounts for 21% of the brand’s global sales, has significantly impacted the Trident marque. However, Stellantis aims to recover by focusing on the electric Folgore program, specifically with the GranTurismo and GranCabrio models.

Mele also reiterated that all current and future Maserati models will be 100% designed, developed, and produced in Italy. Mirafiori will be among the leading plants involved in these productions.

Torino, with its rich automotive history and expertise, continues to be a vital part of Stellantis’ global strategy. The city and its surrounding region serve as the driving force behind the company’s decision-making process, not only in Italy but throughout the world. Mirafiori, with its impressive production capabilities, remains a key location for the development and manufacturing of Stellantis’ most iconic vehicles.

The Fiat 500, a symbol of Italian design and innovation, is set to continue its success story at Mirafiori, with ambitious targets for the electric version. Meanwhile, Maserati, despite facing challenges in the Chinese market, remains committed to its Italian roots and plans to bounce back with electrified models.

As Stellantis continues to shape the future of the automotive industry, Torino stands proudly as a city that not only preserves its rich heritage but also plays a crucial role in driving innovation, sustainability, and success for the company. The collaboration between Stellantis and Torino is a testament to the city’s enduring legacy as a hub of automotive excellence.
