Loren and De Sica: Icons of the Iconic Encounter between Cinema and Industry
The sixth edition of the “La Settima Arte Cinema e Industria” festival, dedicated to the knowledge and craftsmanship of the film industry, will take place in Rimini from May 2nd to May 5th. The festival is organized by Confindustria Romagna and the University of Bologna – Department of Arts, in collaboration with the Municipality of Rimini, the Fellini Museum, the Rimini Film Library, and Cfc-International Research Centre. The protagonists of this year’s festival are none other than Sophia Loren and Vittorio De Sica.
The guiding theme of the event, in the year when the 70th anniversary of Federico Fellini’s “La Strada” is celebrated, is “the journey.” According to the organizers, this theme symbolizes the link between the past, present, and future, commemorating the path taken by the Italian film industry and its importance in spreading entrepreneurial values and the Made in Italy brand worldwide.
The chosen image for the festival’s 2024 poster pays tribute to Loren, De Sica, and the land of Romagna. The photograph depicts the actress alongside the director during a break in the filming of “La Riffa,” a 1962 film directed by De Sica and the fourth act of the film “Boccaccio ’70,” which also includes episodes directed by Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti, and Mario Monicelli. De Sica’s episode starring Loren is set and filmed in the Romagna region. The photo was taken by photographer Pierluigi Praturlon.
During the festival, there will be screenings, premieres, masterclasses, conferences, meetings, book presentations, and the award ceremony for the Cinema and Industry Award. All events will be free of charge.
This year’s edition promises to be a celebration of Italian cinema and its close relationship with the industrial world. It is a unique opportunity to appreciate the talent and creativity of Sophia Loren and Vittorio De Sica, two icons who have left an indelible mark on the history of Italian cinema.
