Amadeus and the Possible Separation from Rai: Rumors Intensify

Speculations about Amadeus leaving Rai to join Discovery are growing stronger by the hour. These rumors, which have been circulating for weeks, suggest that the host informally informed the top executives at Viale Mazzini of his intention not to renew his contract, which is set to expire at the end of August. Warner Bros Discovery is eagerly awaiting him, aiming to make another strategic move after hiring Fabio Fazio.

The rumors about Amadeus’s surprising departure were initially reported by Dagospia a few days ago and are now being echoed by TvBlog. However, there have been no confirmations or denials so far. Even Amadeus’s friend Fiorello, in his usual witty manner, hinted at “changes in progress” early in the morning. When asked if Amadeus would stay at Rai or move elsewhere, Fiorello responded by playfully playing the sad trumpet melody known as ‘Silenzio fuori ordinanza’ and jokingly dedicated it to Rai.

Discovery is courting the king of ratings, who has enjoyed five successful years at Sanremo and is a record holder for prime-time access. They are reportedly offering him a lucrative multi-year contract for a daily game show on Nove. This would be a highly engaging program for the audience and therefore particularly attractive to advertisers. Amadeus has built a strong bond with viewers on Rai1 with shows like “Soliti Ignoti” and a revamped version of “Affari Tuoi,” which have consistently achieved over 30% audience share. It is also rumored that the well-established show “Soliti Ignoti,” owned by Endemol-Banijay, whose rights with Rai are also expiring, could be part of this project aimed at enriching Nove’s schedule and strengthening competition against mainstream channels. However, rumors about Amadeus becoming responsible for the entertainment department of the channel have not been confirmed. It is worth noting that while Mediaset has expressed professional admiration for Amadeus, they have stated that they are not interested in his services. Nevertheless, there may be other players interested in him.

Rai has chosen not to comment on these rumors swirling around. In recent weeks, as the company prepares for a change in leadership, they have engaged in negotiations with Amadeus and offered a revised proposal after the host expressed his desire not to continue his experience at Sanremo.

According to reports, a final decision is not expected imminently. While the future of the festival remains uncertain, with names such as Carlo Conti and Alessandro Cattelan being mentioned as possible successors, Dagospia suggests that Stefano De Martino is being considered to take over “Affari Tuoi.” Fiorello also adds his own humorous touch to the discussion, speculating that if one day the show’s host were to change, “Minister Lollobrigida” would take over hosting duties.
