Eleonora Abbagnato debuts as Juliet, alongside her daughter Julia

In the vast panorama of performing arts, few characters have captured the imagination and hearts of the audience like Juliet, the eternally young and romantic heroine of William Shakespeare’s tragedy. Bringing this iconic figure to life in a new and captivating incarnation will be Eleonora Abbagnato, director of the ballet company and dance school of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and former étoile of the Opéra de Paris. The show is simply titled “Giulietta” and will be performed in Terni on Saturday, May 11th (9 pm), as part of the “Umbria Forum” season at PalaTerni.

In the role of Juliet, Abbagnato presents herself as the epitome of love in all its facets, thanks to her ability to convey emotions through the universal language of dance. “Giulietta” will be danced to Tchaikovsky’s overture-fantasia. On stage, we will see a blonde child lost in romantic daydreams: a little Juliet of our time who, looking at herself, sees the reflection of the woman in love she will become.

The two resemble each other because the woman is Eleonora Abbagnato, and the eleven-year-old girl is Julia Balzaretti, the étoile’s daughter, who not coincidentally shares the same name as the Veronese heroine. They will dance with the two choreographers and performers Simone Repele and Sasha Riva.

One of the most intriguing innovations of the show is the use of music. Instead of Prokofiev’s famous score that often accompanies performances of “Romeo and Juliet,” other compositions inspired by Shakespeare’s tragedy will be featured. These musical pieces will be performed live by two virtuoso pianists, Marcos Madrigal and Alessandro Stella, who will bring a new interpretation to the familiar melodies.

Furthermore, the show presents a series of original choreographies that explore the theme of love in an innovative way. Abbagnato and her partner, Michele Satriano (principal dancer of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma), will immerse themselves in these complex nuances of love during the performance, offering the audience a suggestive and engaging experience.

In conclusion, Eleonora Abbagnato’s debut as Juliet, accompanied by her daughter Julia, promises to be a captivating and emotional performance. With the use of new musical interpretations and innovative choreographies, “Giulietta” offers a fresh take on Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness this unique and enchanting production.
