Stefano Accorsi assumes the artistic direction of Planetaria in Florence

The first edition of the Planetaria – Discorsi con la Terra festival will take place from June 7th to 9th at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence. Created by Stefano Accorsi and Filippo Gentili, with the production by Superhumans and the Fondazione Teatro della Toscana Planetaria, this event aims to combine art, performance, and science to promote awareness about the environment, climate change, and sustainability. The scientific partner is the University of Milano-Bicocca, with Engineering as the innovation partner.

Stefano Accorsi is also the artistic director of the festival, and he will be supported by Claudia Pasquero, a professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca, who will serve as the scientific director. The scientific consultants for Planetaria are Stefano Mancuso and Giulio Boccaletti. Additionally, an artificial intelligence named Sibilla, created specifically for Planetaria by Engineering, will engage in real-time conversations with artists, scientists, and the audience during the three evening performances known as “Imaginary Conferences.” Through these conferences, Sibilla will tell the story of how we have hypothetically solved the environmental problem in the future.

Planetaria aims to be a three-day journey for diverse audiences. The mornings will be dedicated to families with the Kids lab & shows section, featuring scientific and experiential activities, theatrical performances, and shows. In the afternoons, Planetaria Talks, designed in collaboration with Will, will explore new words for our future, new hopes, and new ways of communicating and taking action, together with distinguished guests from the scientific world. The evenings will come alive with theatrical performances that combine art and science, specifically the Imaginary Conferences. These original plays will captivatingly address the problems and solutions of the climate crisis. Participation is free but requires a reservation. In collaboration with Treedom, a sustainability partner, trees will be planted to offset the CO₂ emissions of Planetaria.

“The idea behind Planetaria stems from the belief that theater, as a place of empathy and imagination, is a perfect tool for raising awareness about the climate crisis we face today. Moving away from a cold and apocalyptic approach to science communication, theater embraces the concerns of the best scientific minds, encourages us to imagine a sustainable future, and invites us to build it together,” explains Accorsi.

In summary, Planetaria promises to be an innovative and engaging festival that combines art, science, and performance to tackle important environmental issues. With its diverse program designed for families and adults alike, this event aims to inspire hope and encourage action towards a sustainable future. By bringing together renowned artists, scientists, and the public, Planetaria provides a unique platform for dialogue and collaboration. Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this extraordinary experience.
