Lizzo, the American singer and rapper, has recently taken a stand against body shaming and decided to put an end to the criticism she faces regarding her appearance. In a powerful message posted on social media, the 35-year-old artist expressed her frustration and announced that she may have to take a break from the music industry due to the constant negative comments about her physical appearance.

Lizzo wrote, “I’m tired of being dragged into negativity in my life and on the internet. All I want to do is make music, make people happy, and help make the world a better place than when I found it.” She candidly admitted that she has started feeling like the world doesn’t want her anymore and that she is constantly faced with lies and disrespect from people who don’t even know her. Lizzo vented her frustrations, saying, “I didn’t sign up for this shit.”

The post received an outpouring of support from Lizzo’s followers and fellow artists, including a comment from Paris Hilton who wrote, “We love you, Queen.” This is not the first time that Lizzo has spoken out against body shaming. In May of this year, the singer temporarily deactivated her social media accounts and threatened to leave the music industry due to the overwhelming comments about her appearance. Lizzo had also faced accusations of harassment and discrimination from some of her dancers, who claimed that they were mistreated because of their bodies. Lizzo vehemently denied these allegations.

However, Lizzo is not alone in facing body shaming. Many other women in the entertainment industry have been victims of this harmful behavior. Lady Gaga and Kate Winslet have faced criticism for not conforming to societal beauty standards, while Selena Gomez has been shamed for gaining weight. Jennifer Aniston has been attacked for her bloated appearance, and even Adele faced backlash when she lost weight.

In Italy, singer BigMama has also fallen victim to body shaming. After her experience at the Sanremo Music Festival, she flew to New York to speak about bullying and body shaming in front of thousands of teenagers at the United Nations headquarters. BigMama shared that she is deeply moved when people reach out to her and say that they felt better about themselves after seeing her on television.

It is disheartening to see that body shaming is still prevalent in our society. Vanessa Incontrada has been targeted for not quickly losing weight after her pregnancy, Elena Santarelli faced criticism for being too skinny while dealing with her sick child, and journalist Giovanna Botteri has been attacked for her hair color and style. Even well-known figures such as Elodie, Arisa, and Chiara Ferragni have been subjected to unwarranted judgment, with Ferragni even being criticized for the length of her toes.

It is time for us to realize that everyone’s body is their own and should not be a basis for judgment. As Billie Eilish highlighted in her powerful short film, “Not My Responsibility,” which addresses the body shaming she has faced, we should stop using someone’s appearance as a measure of their worth. Let us learn from these experiences and strive for a world where body positivity and acceptance are the norm.
