Iren, one of Italy’s leading companies in waste management and the circular economy, has recently inaugurated Circular Plastic, a state-of-the-art facility for the selection and storage of plastic waste. Located in Borgaro Torinese, near Turin, this innovative plant is one of the largest of its kind in Italy, with an annual treatment capacity of around 100,000 tons. The project was realized by Amiat and managed by I.Blu, both companies belonging to the Iren group.
Circular Plastic was built using the most advanced technologies in the sector, allowing for maximum flexibility in plastic recycling. The facility, which covers an area of 77,000 square meters, is capable of treating loose plastic waste collected through separate waste collection or derived from pre-selection operations carried out in other facilities in central and northern Italy. It will employ 40 people.
The construction of Circular Plastic required a significant investment of 45 million euros. The facility is not only a symbol of Iren’s commitment to waste management but also a pioneering project on an international level. “We are consolidating our efforts in the circular economy, which is also a business opportunity,” says Luca Dal Fabbro, president of the Iren group.
